Potential Change for 2024 Commission Schedule Discuss the possibility of switching regular meeting dates to the 1st Wednesday of the month in 2024 to allow the Transportation Commission meetings to be better sequenced with the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committees and the Beautification and Public Art Commission.]

SARAH, WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK TO US ABOUT OUR POTENTIAL SCHEDULE CHANGE?

THE TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION, WHICH MEETS ON THE FIRST WEDNESDAY OF EVERY MONTH HAS BEEN HAVING SOME SEQUENCING ISSUES BECAUSE THE WORK THEY DO, THEY OFTEN WANT TO HEAR FROM THE BPAC, WHICH IS BEAUTIFICATION PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION.

THEY WANT TO HEAR FROM THEIR BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND THEIR PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE BEFORE THEY CONSIDER ITEMS. THEY ALSO ONLY MEET EVERY OTHER MONTH AND SO WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IS BECAUSE THEY OCCUPY THE FIRST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH AND THOSE COMMITTEES MEET AFTER.

THEY'RE SOMETIMES HAVING TROUBLE MOVING THINGS ALONG EXPEDITIOUSLY ON THEIR OWN AGENDA AND SO THE [INAUDIBLE] REQUESTED AFTER THEIR LAST MEETING THAT REACH OUT TO ME AND ASK IF YOU ALL ARE WILLING IN 2024 TO SWITCH WEDNESDAYS WITH THEM.

I KNOW COMMISSIONER BERCHAM IS NOT HERE AND I DID CHECK WITH HER THAT THAT IS A CHANGE THAT WILL WORK FOR HER.

WHAT THAT ALSO REQUIRES IS THAT MARK WILL NEED TO PRODUCE A WHOLE DIFFERENT SCHEDULE FOR NEXT YEAR SUBMISSION DEADLINES, WHICH HE'S LOOKED AT AND HE DOESN'T SEE ANY REASON WHY THAT WOULD BE MORE DIFFICULT.

IT ACTUALLY WOULD REMOVE THE CONFLICT WE HAVE WITH THANKSGIVING IN OUR SUBMISSION DEADLINE, WHICH HAPPENS EVERY YEAR.

WE HAVE LIKE A LITTLE EARLIER THAT WEEK, SO IT ACTUALLY REMOVES OUR ONLY REAL WEDNESDAY HOLIDAY PROBLEM CONFLICT.

I INTERNED UNDER KIM SHARP FOR ANYBODY THAT KNOWS THE HISTORY OF THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT WHO WAS SARAH'S PREDECESSOR AND DID ONE OF THE SELL SIDE INVENTORIES AS PART OF THAT INTERNSHIP.

AS WELL AS I WORKED A LITTLE BIT DOWN IN THE SHPO OFFICE DOING AS SITE MAPPING IN GIS AND GOING THROUGH THEIR CULTURAL RESOURCES.

THEN I LEFT HERE AND I WENT TO ALASKA WHERE I WAS FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS AND I'VE BEEN BACK HERE FOR THE LAST TWO.

BUT REALLY SEEING THE FOCUS OF WHY THERE WAS SO MUCH INTERESTS AND ROUTE 66 AND THIS NOSTALGIC THAT WAS HAPPENING WITH PEOPLE WHO WERE RETIRING AND NOW HAVING THE TIME TO COME BACK THIS WAY.

A LOT OF OLDER GENTLEMAN WHO HAD ACTUALLY BEEN SHIFTED OUT DURING THE WAR AND NOW THEY WERE IN THEIR PERIOD OF TIME WHERE THEY COULD ACTUALLY TRAVEL WITH THEIR FAMILIES AND THEY WERE COMING BACK AND THEY HAD THIS REALLY BIG INTERESTS IN ROUTE 66.

THAT'S WHY I CHOSE THAT AS MY MASTER'S THESIS AND SO I DO GET EXCITED WHEN I SEE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT THEY'RE DOING OVER THERE AT THE VISITOR CENTER, REALLY AMPING THAT UP.
